The Swedish Gate was but through in Riga's fortress wall in 1689. It is the only city gate in Riga that retained its primordial looks.

According to the legend, the building, where the gate is now located was in a rich merchant's property. As he didn't want to pay tax every time he took the goods into the city, he cut out this gate. It is the only city gate in Riga that retained its primordial looks.
