The Central Market in Riga is the largest market in Europe. It consists of 4 main pavilions (meat, fish, vegetable and dairy pavilions) that come around commercial rows and stalls.
The bank of the Daugava has been a trading place since 1571 and in 1863 special rows were built here. The modern market building was built in 1930. Airship hangars left over by the Germans after World War I were used for that purpose.
