The city museum is placed in a luxurious building built in 1901 after Berlin architect Ernest von Ine’s drafts. At present time the museum’s reserves store more than one hundred thousand items.
Several expositions tell about the past of Liepaja and Southern Kurzeme: ancient history with unique archaeological material, history of the medieval town, signs of the XIX-XX centuries period, ethnography of Southern Kurzeme, history of Liepaja during occupation and others. There is also an exhibiton hall in the museum where art exhibition are periodically held.
