Riga is a very attentive city to its little residents and guests
There are two children’s open-air parks in Riga. Those are Mezhapark (Forest Park), with the Zoo, amusement park, kid’s railroad and modern playground, and Recreation Centre Lido. In Jurmala you can go to an excellent family recreation park Dzintari and amusement park. Sea-side city Ventspils has a modern kids’ town, water amusement park and narrow-gauge railroad.
Favourite indoor places to which kids usually pull theirs parents by the sleeve are Livu Aquapark in Yurmala, Go Planet complex and kids’ town Lido in shopping center Spice (the name is pronounced as “speetse”). But it should be mentioned that these places and parks are situated at a certain distance from the centre of the city. You can get there by car or public transport. In summer even an ordinary walk around the Old Town and adjacent parks can become a little adventure. On weekends there is a lot of fairs or street concerts and other shows there. You can go boating along the canals or just feed ducks at the banks. In the downtown city’s parks there are playgrounds, trampolines, inflatable bouncers and kids’ cars for rent. In winter time skating rinks are open.
In addition to parks there are the Circus and Puppet Theatre (shows in Latvian and Russian languages) as well as movie theatre named Forum Cinemas. Outside the capital Tervete nature park is especially popular. There in the forest you can find secret town of dwarves with their own railroad. Besides, you can book theme excursions (for example, to the airport or chocolate factory).
Of course, you can go to bowling center and swimming pool (check City Activities) or to one of the active recreation parks opened all around Latvia (check Outdoor Activities).
